Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium

The Government of India built the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, India, in 1982 to host the Ninth Asian Games. The massive facility is an all-purpose sports arena hosting football (soccer) and other sporting events, as well as large-scale entertainment events, such as concerts by India’s leading musical acts and entertainers. The facility seats 78,000 spectators. In terms of sitting capacity, it is the third biggest stadium in India.

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium of Delhi is situated near C.G.O. Complex in the Lodhi Road area. It is spread over 100 acres including 23 acres green cover. It has floodlight facility to facilitate nighttime events. Modernization work is going on to build a new 10 lane synthetic track, synthetic warm-up track and a synthetic lawn ball field.

The stadium will also host the upcoming 2010 Commonwealth Games. In preparation for the Games, the stadium is undergoing a refurbishment that will reduce the capacity to 75,000 spectators. It will be completed in early 2010.

The opening and closing ceremonies, athletics, lawn bowls, and weightlifting will take place at the massive Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. This stadium has different grounds for different sports with varying spectator capacity.
