The Commonwealth Games 2010 will be held in eleven main venues. Besides there will be a numbers of training venues. These includes some important sports complexes within the city including Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Yamuna Sports Complex, RK Khanna Tennis Complex, SPM Swimming Pool Complex, Siri Fort Sports Complex, Talkotara Stadium, Delhi University Stadium, Tyagaraja Stadium, Maj. Dhyanchand National Stadium and Karni Singh Shooting Range.
The Indian capital will have five new stadiums and a Games Village for the Commonwealth Games 2010 to be held in October. All the stadiums are to be modernized and upgraded up to the international level. Works already has begun in all this venues. Setting out a timetable, the government said the work on sports venues will be completed by December 2009
One indoor stadium each will be constructed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for weightlifting, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex for wrestling, Siri Fort for badminton and squash and Yamuna Complex for table tennis.
Existing and new stadiums are to be used to house the following sports: Archery, Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Elite Athletes with a Disability (EAD) Events, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby 7s, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestli
All these venues are at an average distance 10 km. from the Games Village while most of these are within the range of only 5 Km. The traveling distance between the venues and Games village is 15-20 munites at maximum.
An extensive network of high quality roads very well connects all venues - existing and new-. As a special venture, Delhi Metro is going to spread its network to connect all major locations associated with the upcoming Commonwealth Games. These include Games Village, all the Sports venues and other major tourist attractions in and around Delhi. The Delhi government will come up with a special map showing different modes of transportation connecting all these locations.
