Lawn Bowls or Lawn Bowling is a precision sport in which the goal is to roll slightly radially asymmetrical balls (called bowls) closest to a smaller white ball (called the "jack"," kitty", or "sweetie"). It is played outdoors on grass or artificial surfaces and indoors on artificial surfaces. It is most popular in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and in other Commonwealth nations.
Lawn Bowls is a sport in Commonwealth Games. It was included since Hamilton 1930 and remained a regular feature of all Commonwealth Games except in Kingston 1966
In the 2010 Commonwealth Games men and women, players will fight separately for six gold medals on offer consisting of singles, doubles and triples events.
The draws are conducted in a round-robin format. At the conclusion of the preliminary rounds, the top performers then compete in the quarterfinals. From the quarterfinals onward, the games are run on a knockout basis. The winners of the semi finals then play off for gold in the mens and womens singles doubles and triples competition.
All the Lawn Bowl matches are to be played at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.
