The Commonwealth Games Federation is an association of independent sovereign states spread across seven continent and five oceans. The Commonwealth makes up 30% of the worlds population that is about 2 billion people and extending its wings from Americas to Pacific Ocean and from Greenland to New Zeland. It holds people of different races, religion, cultures, traditions and languages.
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is the organisation that is responsible for the direction and control of the quadrennial Commonwealth Games. The CGF is the supreme authority in all matters concerning the Commonwealth Games. In effect, the CGF owns the Commonwealth Games in the same way as the International Olympic Committee owns the Olympic Games
The basic objective of CGF in organizing Commonwealth Games is to use the Games as a means of improving society and the general well being of the people of the Commonwealth. Besides this, the CGF also encourages and assists education via sport development and physical recreation.
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) rests on three core values of HUMANITY - EQUALITY - DESTINY. These values are the broad mandate of the CGF and help to inspire and unite millions of people across the Commonwealth of Nations.
The CGF headquarter is at London, United Kingdom. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the patron of the Games and HRH the Earl of Wessex CVO is the Vice patron. The CGF organizational hierarchy also consists of Presidents, Vice-presidents, Secretary and other Regional Presidents. However, Chief Executive Officer supervises the day-to-day administration. The present CEO is Michael Hooper.
Recently in 2001, the CGF has adopted a set of new official flag and seal. The horizontal black bar visually represents the Game's effort to raise the bar of sport for all humanity. The bar is supported on either end by two broad, hemispheric strokes and in the center by three converging points, which represents the trinity of ideals the Games embraces: Humanity, Equality, and Destiny.
Membership of the Commonwealth Games Federation is open to those who are duly recognised by the Commonwealth Games Association from each of the constituent parts of the Commonwealth. Each competitor in the Commonwealth Games must be a citizen or subject of a constituent part of the Commonwealth.
